Decided to start this thread as felt putting written translation of interview Michael did in Russia and which Olga has put link to in MB Dates Added thread was far too long to take there when thread is basically nothing to do with such interviews and wasn't too sure where else to put as it is old......believe it is already contained in the 2011 Concert Tour thread !! lol   Hope no one minds me doing this and that those that read, enjoy even though it is old  !!! :)

"25/11/2011 Michael Bolton

November 25 at a party at the program  "Continental Breakfast" on the Radio 7  visited the world famous singer and composer, performer lyrical ballad in the style of "soul" Michael Bolton .

In an interview with Ruben Hakobyan, an American of Russian descent (born musician - Michael Bolotin) shared his impressions of contemporary Moscow, revealed the secret of success in America, and also spoke about his extended family.

RA: Good morning, Michael!

MB: Good morning!

RA: How do you Moscow?

MB: I really like it. I arrived in 1986. I am very pleased that Moscow had changed so much, because then it was a completely different world, even for me, a foreigner who came to the land of their ancestors. The time was frightening, but also happy, because then the new Russia was born. Now Moscow - a big modern city.

RA: Not everyone knows that your family's Russian roots. Any traditions you have cultivated?

MB: Honestly, not really, except that the relationship to work. Although both my grandmother and my grandfather was born here, they are Americanized. And they really appreciate what America could achieve in his zeal. They had a hard time, they climbed out of the skin to give children a better life. Ambition and perseverance I have from them.

RA: As I understand it, your real name Bolotin - a father. A surname of his mother's side?

MB: Yes, I actually Bolotin. I have a passport means exactly that name, and surname of the mother - Gubin. The first time my name was correct at the time said a Russian musician. Good, said the Russian name - Bolotin. I say, "Wow! You are the first who said it right. "

RA: Do you know any of the words occurred Bolotin name?

MB: None.

RA: Swamp. Swamp.

MB: Really? That is the one who came out of the swamp? From this story of my success even brighter. From rags to riches, from the swamp on a tour around the world, including the historic homeland.

RA: Yes, yes.

You told me for the ether, which grew up in a liberal atmosphere, but I know that you had a strong rebellious spirit. Rebelled against what in those days a young Michael Bolotin?

MB: First, I want to say that I never grew up. In general, growing up greatly overrated, and I like to think that I'm still young at heart. And as to rebellion, it was this: a place where I grew up in New Haven - it's not far from New York, has not spared the so-called British invasion music. The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Kinks - всеэтидлинноволосыеанглийскиерокеры. Well, my brother and I, too, grow long hair. Now it's hard to believe, but in those days it was impossible to walk down the street with long hair, people were saying bad things followed, tried to start a fight. The school demanded a haircut, or I was not allowed to play baseball, and I loved it. I remember how my father went to school and demanded to leave me alone. Just then from behind me.

RA: And during the Cold War was not such a strange feeling when you did not know who to side with? After all, the country where you were born, resisted his homeland of your ancestors ?

MB: I'm glad that between Russia and America is no longer a military confrontation. We lived in constant fear of war with the Soviet Union. And this division - us and them - it seemed really strange to me. Therefore, the end of the Cold War was very important for my family.

RA: You have had no problems with Americans because of the Russian roots?

MB: Anything can happen, but that this was normal - no. I do more than draw attention to the fact that people living in one world, united, and not vice versa. Everything, including history, tells us that the path to peace is through unity and cooperation.

RA: But some things are very different - and this is the cause of all ills.

MB: I do not know if the differences are the cause or how we look at one and the same thing. We are hampered by the fact that a part of human nature - pride. I think all our troubles away.

I'm not interested in politics, I'm just socially active person, whose profession is music. And it is thus a bridge that brings people together. This, if you will, what can be called a universal value.

RA: We have a universal value - oil.

MB: Yes, unfortunately, historically it has long been the case.

RA: Michael, You've started out as a singer in a heavy metal band?

MB: It was the case. However, it was not so much heavy metal and hard rock. My lead guitarist Bruce Kulick was.

RA: The same? Of the group Kiss ???

MB: Yes, it is only then he began to play with the guys from Kiss, and introduced me to them. One day I went to their concert, and watching the room takes them as with them singing a song I wrote, I thought, 'That's great. " In fact, it gave impetus to write ballads to rock bands, but I wrote all sorts of music - from r & b to the blues. To be successful, I had to leave the rock. While I was playing the opening act for Ozzy Osbourne, with Santana, the Krokus. Do you know this group?

RA: What are you, of course! I fanatel from hard rock! And who are you most authoritative?

MB: The most cool was, of course, Ozzy. Great guy. On stage, he gets up is, from what room immediately start. At the same time in the life of a completely different person - a very pleasant and cheerful.

Looking back now, remembering his long hair, leather suits, straps and metal bracelets that I wore, I think, "God, who is it?", But I got enormous pleasure from it. It is good that there is such a well from which to draw.

RA: And when he came the first real success as a performer?

MB: I was 34 years old, and I released the first record in 16 years. In fact, to win the recognition it took 18 years.

RA: Let's talk about your customers. As it usually happens? You call and ask to write a song?

MB: And that happens. And it so happens that I record a demo version of the song and give their publishers, and they then decide which of the artists, it may be appropriate. But in most cases I'll say, 'This send Kenny Rogers, this - Cher, and this should be like Barbara Streisand. " When you write a song and you reach the chorus, you have any idea who she is.

RA: And then began a career with the composer? As an unknown author can start writing for artists who already have contracts with record labels and money on stuff? I always wondered.

MB: Once my songs no one was looking for. Sold one of my plate was 7 copies - it bought only the members of my family. And I already had a wife and three daughters, they had to feed and clothe. When you're single, you can spend days hanging out with friends, spend the night with them. When you're married, this number does not take place. And here I sit at the kitchen table and think, where to get money to pay the rent. One of my friends asked me why I did not send his songs to publishers, because they are usually a good idea to pay. And I thought: "But why? This is an established industry, "and pulled in Los Angeles. They found a studio that was to offer my songs are well-known artists. Soon, these songs are in different albums performers. Under the contract, I had to give out 12 songs a year, and since then I no longer have to think about what to pay for housing.

RA: Then your name was a guarantee that the song becomes a hit?

MB: As I say do not hit, but it's pretty good reputation of the songs I had. You see, because they send hundreds from around the world. And when your over and over again, maintaining such a competition, the artists selected for the album, here is the publishers themselves are beginning to offer producers.

RA: How are themselves selected the songs for concerts? You make the program performance for each country separately?

MB: I usually ask the organizers of the tour, which of my songs are most popular, where the concert. After all, in fact, I have been writing the soundtrack to the biographies of my audience for these songs, they not only fall in love, marry, have children, but experiencing the most difficult moments. So I try to perform live songs, which were held at different stages of their lives. List of executables in different countries of the songs is almost the same, but I can change something in the course of the concert, if I feel that the public is bored in the room. Also, always try to perform hits and keep your finger on the pulse of the audience. «When a man loves a woman», «How Am I supposed to live without you», «Georgia» and others like them, as a rule, sound at all concerts - my room without them will not let go.

RA: You felt like a sex symbol? A prominent man, with strong vocals, on stage - a woman is thrilled by this.

MB: Yes, there were rumors. In fact, by itself, the term "sex symbol" is funny. In general, a lot of pop culture humor. When, for example, with success at every fence appears your portraits on billboards, on buses, on TV constantly chase your clips. I take this with humor. I have already said that in his heart still feel like a teenager. I just write and perform songs that people like. I sang cPavarotti with Domingo, Carreras with. I did not go on stage with the thought: "I'm a sex symbol, now I'll take a note that I would be even sexier." Those who use the phrase "sex symbol" does not understand that the arts require discipline, labor, concentration. All this does not take seriously such things.

RA: What are you doing when you find out on the street, ask for a photo, an autograph?

MB: I always try to be friendly. In a measure, of course. Otherwise there'll break away. Late for rehearsal or recording. However, as far as possible try not to refuse, even when you can do it.

RA: And to all sorts of tricks out there like a baseball cap or sunglasses are not resorting to remain unrecognized?

MB: It does not help, you still learn. It is still bearable, but earlier, when the hair was long, nothing is saved. Although the hat, even though glasses and hair - all the same.

It should appear in a public place, right people around start to look around, whispering, to show you. This is the price of success. I really appreciate his popularity, because I had to work so hard for it. It is foolish to complain about what you know, pay attention and ask for yours. Would not you like this?

But, for example, when I'm sitting in a restaurant with her daughters, I always politely refuse, otherwise I will not be given to eat.

RA: While we're talking about this: your daughter know who their father really?

MB: Yes. I say to myself: "To get back to reality, just go to the kitchen, where sit your girls, who do not care how many people were on your last performance." They all understand, but for them I - Father, not a star. Although the children have visited dozens of my speeches, saw 20-thousandths of an audience, where people are screaming, going crazy, and so on. But it's long gone now for them the whole entourage - just my job and home for stardom points are not awarded. Daughters know me now, with all the weaknesses and shortcomings, blunders. Therefore, no matter what happens at a concert, is coming home, and any celebrity flies like leaves in autumn.

RA: A girl you do not have a grandfather?

MB: Of course! I've double-grandfather.

RA: It is necessary, too late with congratulations. Take late.

MB: Thank you. And for the interview, too - it was just great!

RA: This is a thank you, Michael!

MB: Good luck to you!"

Hey Sylvia, thanks a million for posting this here sweetie! When Olga posted the link, since it was a radio interview, I foolishly assumed it was audio and couldn't find the link. I was hoping my son could help me find it. I've checked all my saved articles from 2011 and have not found this one and although some parts we've heard many times before, I'm fairly sure I hadn't read it. So again, thanks a million sweetie, much appreciated. Take care. Big hugs, sincerely, Sylvie from Canada :D
